Using music in videos involves two different copyrighted properties:

Compositions
Written by songwriters. The rights to include compositions in videos are generally controlled by music publishers.
Sound Recordings
The recorded version of a composition created by a recording artist. The rights to include sound recordings in videos are generally controlled by record labels.

The license or permission to use a copyrighted composition or sound recording in a video is referred to as a synchronization (or “sync”) license.

Why does the fee cover two rights?
Every song you use involves two separate copyrights — the composition and the sound recording.
Why does my fee depend on my reach or revenue?
For influencers and content creators, your fee scales with your reach and the revenue you earn from your content, because both reflect how much value the music adds. A larger audience or higher content earnings moves you into a higher rate tier; above the minimum, your fee grows with your following and revenue. For small brands, DekaSync focuses on your reach only — revenue information is not currently required in assessing your annual DekaSync royalty fee.
Why does my fee depend on the catalog?
For equity, DekaSync takes into account the portion of the music publishing and record label markets covered by its catalog. As the DekaSync catalog grows your fee during renewal periods may adjust accordingly.
Is there a minimum?
Yes. The current minimum annual fee is $960 (or $84/month if paying monthly).
Can I cancel and stop paying?
Your license is for a fixed 1-year term. Cancelling only stops auto-renewal for another year and your current term's fee remains owed on your payment schedule.
Does my fee depend on which songs I use?
No.
